WHII: SOL 6a Scientific Revolution

Pioneers of the scientific revolution Nicolaus Copernicus developed heliocentric theory. Sun, not the Earth, is the center of the universe Order of the planets

Johannes Kepler discovered planetary motion. – The planets moved in elliptical patterns around the sun – As a planet gets closer to the sun, it moves faster, when it is farthest from the sun, it moves slower so that the planet moves through these unequal parts in an equal amount of time

Galileo Galilei used telescope to support heliocentric theory.

Isaac Newton formulated law of gravity.

William Harvey discovered circulation of the blood.

Importance of the scientific revolution Emphasis on reason and systematic observation of nature – Changed the way people viewed the world and their place in it Formulation of the scientific method Expansion of scientific knowledge
