RTI 2 Please write down three things you want to know before this session is done today.

Response to Instruction and Intervention (RTI 2 ) Reviewing the Process and Increasing Fidelity of Implementation February 2016

RTI 2 Response to Instruction and Intervention is not a program. It is more than a checklist to be completed or data points to obtain. It is a way of rethinking our entire approach to seeing students across the performance continuum. It is truly a means for ensuring that student growth and success occurs on a daily basis.

Continuum of Instructional Support

Tier 2 vs. Tier 3 Tier 2Tier 3 10 th -24 th percentile0 th -9 th percentile 30 minutes of skill specific intervention daily 45 minutes of skill specific intervention daily Small Group Ratio K-5 1:5; :6 Small Group Ratio K-5 1:3; 6-8 1:6; :12 60 weekly minutes (minimum) of face to face small group instruction 165 weekly minutes (minimum) of face to face small group instruction 3 fidelity checks during 8-10 week span of data collection 5 fidelity checks during 8-10 week span of data collection Progress monitoring every other week Progress monitoring every week Rate of Improvement (ROI) calculated after a minimum of 2 data points Student intervention plan completed and updated Parent letters and progress monitoring sent home Intervention Logs completed daily

Tier minutes of small group face to face instruction provided by the (Teacher) (20 min. x 5 days per week = 100 min.) 90 minutes of face to face instruction provided by the interventionist (Michael) (30 minutes x 3 times per week = 90 min.) 60 min. Istation (computer) (Istation 30 min. 2 x per week = 60 min.) Total of 250 minutes for Tier 2

Tier minutes minimum 100 minutes small group face to face instruction (Teacher) (20 min. x 5 days per week = 100 min.) 90 minutes face to face small group instruction with interventionist (Michael) (45 min. 2 days per week = 90 min.) 45 minutes Istation (computer) 3 times per week. (Teacher) (Istation 45 min. 3 x per week = 135 min.) Total of 325 minutes for Tier 3

Determining Tier 2 and Tier 3 Once MAP is complete, then each school will be given a list of students who will be complete the initial baseline assessment easyCBM. Following the administration of the easyCBM baseline, data should be reviewed within one week of administration. Students performing at or below the 24 th percentile in one or more area will then receive further assessment with easyCBM to establish the instructional level for intervention and progress monitoring.

Progress Monitoring (PM) PM data is collected using EasyCBM only PM is collected at instructional level PM is collected in targeted skill deficit area only PM is weekly for Tier 3 and Students with Disabilities PM is every other week for Tier 2

Instructional Levels After completing the initial baseline score with easyCBM, it is necessary to determine the student’s instructional level and lowest area of skill deficit. Determines the type and grade level of intervention that needs to be provided as well as the progress monitoring tool and level which will be used.

Instructional Levels Procedures for determining instructional levels by grade levels are found on pages of the District Implementation Guide. Revised January 2016, handout
