Think right… Live right!
For God has not given us a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV) Sōphronismos - A sound mind / self-control / self-discipline “Not self-control, but the faculty of generating it … in one's self, making a sound mind.” (Vincent’s Word Studies)
The mind controlled by the sinful nature is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace. (Romans 8:6 NIV)
Self Talk- inner dialogue/critical voice “Research indicates that 75% of what we think is negative, counterproductive, and works against us.” (H. Norman Wright- A better way to think)
3 Steps to Controlling Your Thoughts: 1.Awareness 2.Assessment 3.Amendment
1. Awareness Be aware of your thoughts and feelings. Feeling strong negative emotions? Retrace the path of your emotion and thoughts. Anger Anxiety Guilt Shame Hatred Fear Sadness Worry Worthlessness Hopelessness
2. Assessment Assess your thoughts. Are they accurate and true? Core beliefs (non-conscious/conscious mind)
3. Amendment Amend your thoughts. Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. (Romans 8:5 TNIV)
