Presentation transcript:

What happened to you when you got injured or ill during the war

 Soldiers were at risk of getting hurt or ill when living in the trenches  Trenches did not provide much protection  They were cold, wet and muddy  Soldiers could be hurt by bombs or bullets

 Some soldiers carried first aid bags  This is an original first aid bag  Compare it to our modern first aid kit in the classroom  Often soldiers needed more than first aid

 Sometimes a soldier needed to go for more treatment. They would be taken by stretcher to the dressing station  At the dressing station, a soldier would be assessed and treated or moved to a hospital

 The hospitals would be away from the fighting.  Women were allowed to work in the hospitals  Many of the soldiers were terribly injured and many died.  Some soldiers needed many months in hospital to get well again.
