Presentation transcript:

 Like the vacuoles and the Golgi Bodies, lysosomes are small round bubbles of lipid membrane.  Lysosomes are single membrane organelles.

 In nearly every animal like eukaryotic cell.  Lysosomes after being pinched out by the Golgi Complex float in the cytoplasm until they are needed.

 lysosomes are little digestion machines, they go to work when the cell absorbs or eats some food.  Once the material is inside the cell, the lysosomes attach and release their enzymes.  The enzymes then break down complex molecules that can include complex sugars and proteins.

 if food is scarce and the cell is starving the lysosomes go to work even if there is no food for the cell.  When the signal is sent out, lysosomes will actually digest the cell organelles for nutrients.  The lysosomes do this to keep the cell from starving.

 The way that lysosomes act as part of a factory is by providing nutrients to keep the cell alive, or the factory running.  Lysosomes also break down food particles so in a factory they might be a garbage disposal.

 The structure of vacuoles is a membrane that surrounds a mass of fluid.  Plants may also use vacuoles to store water. Those tiny water bags “vacuoles” help to support the plant.

 Vacuoles are found in both animal and plant cells but are much larger in plant cells.  When a plant cell has stopped growing, there is usually one very large vacuole. Sometimes that vacuole can take up more than half of the cell's volume.

 Vacuoles store food or any variety of nutrients a cell might need to survive.  They store waste products so the rest of the cell is protected from contamination.

 In a factory Vacuoles are the cabinet they supply nutrients and good foods and the cabinets/vacuoles also protect from contamination.
