SEWING SAFETY

Keep your fingers and face AWAY from sewing machine needles. Keep your fingers AWAY from cutting knives of a serger. NEVER machine sew or serge over straight pins.

Keep shears, seam rippers and rotary cutters covered when they are not being used. Pass cutting tools by holding the blade end CLOSED so that you will not injure the person you are passing them to.

Never hold pins by placing them in your mouth or attaching them to your clothing or in the arm of a padded chair. Keep your fingers and face AWAY from the steam from a hot iron.

Always unplug iron and sewing machines when they are not in use. Use rotary cutters only with their special self-healing mat and ruler. You should work carefully and SLOWLY as you learn to sew. This will make it easier and safer!
