Instructional Classes

What Can Faculty Do to Increase Library Use? Bring classes to library for instruction Assign “meaningful” research assignments requiring library use Work collaboratively with librarians on instructional or learner-centered projects Promote general awareness of library services during class

On-site vs. Off-Campus Services More and more services are available without having to go to the library. However, the overall quality of the service and the ability to become a skilled researcher are HIGHLY dependent upon whether or not the user comes into the library or obtains services from a distance.

Convenience Store Analogy There was a time when gas stations simply provided gas Now they provide a number of other services, including small grocery stores... For the CONVENIENCE of their customers

Convenience Store Analogy Cont. If you planned to prepare a Thanksgiving feast you would want to shop at a full service grocery store in order to cook the best meal possible You could do your shopping at a convenience store, but will probably not end up with as good a meal... Cont. And you might disappoint your guests

Critical Thinking Skills Electronic resources analyzed for credibility and accuracy Materials selected after careful review Specific library sources have editorial boards or otherwise reviewed for quality of research Library staff with the knowledge and experience to help you become a discerning researcher Inside the library there is built-in authentication: Outside the library... You’re on your OWN
