Week 12
Atoms Tiny particles of matter; contain protons, neutrons, and electrons
Chemical Property A characteristic of a substance that determines how it will interact to form other substances Ex. Flammability, reactivity
Compound Combination of two or more elements
Density Measure of how much mass is in an object (d = m/v)
Electron Negatively charged particle found in an atom orbiting the nucleus
Neutron Neutral particle of the atom found in the nucleus
Proton Positively charged particle found in the nucleus of an atom
Mixture Two or more substances that are blended but can be separated using their physical qualities. Ex. Boiling salt water – the water evaporates leaving the salt
Nucleus Tiny, positively charged center of an atom that contains protons and neutrons; much more massive than electrons
Physical Property Observable or measurable property in a substance Ex. – mass, density, boiling point, solubility
