Bones and Joints By Mrs. Mastriana

What is a joint? A joint is where two bones meet.

How do they help our skeleton? They make the skeleton flexible – without them we could not move.

What are the 3 different types of joints? The first type of joint is a moveable joint. These move freely like the hip, wrist, shoulder, elbow, knee and ankle.

What are the 3 types of movable joints? 1.The hinge joint allows movement in one direction like the elbow and knee. 2.The pivot joint allows a rotation or twist like the head moving side to side. 3. The ball and socket the most movement like the shoulders and hips. The long bone fits into the hollow of another bone.

What is the next type of joint? The next type of joint is partially movable. This can move just a little like the spine and the ribs.

What is the third type of joint? The final type of joint is the immovable joint. The skull is an immovable joint.
