Appropriate Appearance Presenting Information The ways you present information on the screen depend on the type of information: such as Text, Numbers, Maps, Tables, provided with the technology available to present it. Character display line drawing, graphics, virtual display, on the purpose for which is being used. The purpose might be complex numerical data or 3d surfaces or organisational structure, it is the principle of matching presentation to purpose remains.

There is an advantage when presenting information in an interactive system is that it is easy for the user to choose among several representations whereby making it possible to achieve different goals. So we can plan for a range of possible uses.

Aesthetics and utility Designing a pretty good interface is not necessarily a good interface. Based on or determined by beauty rather than practical or users needs. However good graphic design and attractive displays can increase user’s satisfaction and thus improve productivity.

Inconsistency in an interface appearance makes it messy and may cause problems. i.e. telephone style and calculator style numeric keypads, under stress it would be easy to miss key when swapping between these.

In multimedia systems good the backdrop behind text must have low contrast in order to leave the text readable; this is not the case with graphic designers may include complex and excessive backgrounds because they look good the results are impressive, but completely unusable!

One of the worst colours in many interfaces is the appalling use of colour. This is because monitors only support a limited range of primary colours and over use of different fonts in word processors and overuse of different colours can be distracting Colors and 3d
