Why Geocache? Pros FIELD Trip on the cheap Change of pace and setting Encourage students to become more aware of their environment Treasure hunting or contest to entice the students Let family help find cache locations Cons Schools are NOT publishable sites Identifying good hiding places Prep time to find waypoints, make caches, etc. Timely wrapup Early classes may tell others locations, etc.

Purposes 1. Science Math – use the waypoints are the answer, choose all but 1 “given”, solve for the unkown, and finally reverse the process so you have identified ALL givens and the waypoint becomes the unknown for the students to solve 2. Complete the task – give waypoints and have a task identified in the cache to be completed 3. Cache Race – just that, a race against time and all other groups

Write up 1. Purpose – give the objectives being covered 2. List any needed background information 3. Note ALL safety precautions – include all boundaries – be specific 4. Remember to be aware of significant digits to ensure match with the waypoints

Time to practice Pick a waypoint Pick an objective
