#3 – Which step(s) of the scientific method would happen at the end? A. Hypothesis B. Question C. Conclusion D. Communicate

Today I will…. Explain each step of the Scientific Method Pass back Unit #2 Test Scientific Method Notes (NP 4) Group Practice HW: Craig’s Bad Breath

How would you find an answer to this question?? You just finished the Science paper and it looks like an A+! Then, you click to print and it doesn’t work!! Sound familiar? This is when you apply the Scientific Method.

1. Ask a Question Something you don’t know but want to find out Ex: Why is the printer not working?

2. Make Observations Research and collect information Ex: What do you know about….the printer? power cord? paper? Last person using it?

3. Form a Hypothesis Possible explanation or educated guess Ex: If there is a paper jam, then I am unable to print.

Tell your table…. What are the first three steps of the Scientific Method?

4. How to Test the Hypothesis (Experiment) Materials List the materials you’ll use Ex: computer, printer, cables, paper

4. How to Test the Hypothesis (Experiment) Procedure How will you test your hypothesis? Ex: 1. Open printer 2. Check for paper jams 3. Close printer 4. Press “print” on computer again 5. Repeat steps 1-4 at least 2 more times

Tell your table…. How are the two previous steps similar?

5. Analyze the Results What did you learn from your experiment? What is the data? Ex: RECORD YOUR DATA HERE!! (data charts, graphs)

6. Draw Conclusions Do you accept or reject your hypothesis? Ex: After 3 trials, the data proved there was not a paper jam. I found I was unable to print due to the printer not being plugged in. I reject my hypothesis.

Tell your table…. What are the “magic words” of a conclusion?

7. Communicate the Results Tell others what you have learned. Ex: Mom and Dad, teacher

How would you use the scientific method here??? Just before Christmas, your parents spend a lot of time in the basement workshop. You are not allowed to come into the workshop before warning them.

How would you use the scientific method here??? You are watching TV and the screen goes black. You try turning on the lights, but nothing happens.
