The Five W’s of Website Evaluation Who - Who wrote it? What - What kind of information is included? When – When was it created? Where – Where does the information come from? Why – Does the author have a purpose or motive? From Kathy Shrock’s Guides for Educators

What’s in a Domain Name? Look at the URL to answer Who & Where Sites from commercial businesses usually use.com,.biz U.S. federal government sites end in.gov,.mil K-12 sites often use “k12” in the URL University and college sites end in.edu Sites from non-profit organizations may end in.org or.net A tilde (~) or percent (%) usually means that this is a personal page – even when attached to a university or school!
