Changes in Matter ConceptsVocabluary Critical Thinking The End (Do not use)

If you burn something does it change matter?

Yes

Give an example of a mixture.

A salad, trail mix. Etc.

Explain Condensation

When you change from a gas to a liquid. For example: When you have an iced tea and little water droplets form on the OUTSIDE of your glass.

Explain Evaporation

The change from a liquid to a gas is evaporation. For example: You have to fill up our Class Turtle’s cage with water because it evaporates over time!

What is Water Vapor?

Water that has changed to a gas. For example: When we made green eggs and ham in class we saw the water vapor coming off of the top.

What will happen if you take heat away from a pond? (it gets really cold)

The pond will freeze. (You could go ice skating!)

What would happen if you add heat to some ice cubes?

The ice cubes will melt!

What happens if you add heat to a pot of water?

The water will boil and turn into water vapor!

What happens when water boils?

It evaporates

How can you change a liquid to a solid?

Put it in the freezer and freeze it!

What is a mixture?

When you mix two or more kinds of matter, you make a mixture.

What is evaporation?

When water changes from a liquid to a gas.

What is water vapor?

Water in its gas form

What is condensation?

When water changes from a gas to a liquid.

What is matter?

Everything in the world is made up of matter!

Everything is made of

matter

What happens when paper burns?

Its matter changes

If you cut up a watermelon what happens to the mass of the melon?

It changes! It gets smaller and the shape changes!

Which form of water has its own shape?

Ice! You can pick it up all by itself!

How can you change eggs into new matter?

You could cook them.

How can you change matter?

You can cut it up or add heat to it! (burn it or cook it)
