Speaker of the House Paul Ryan

Speaker of the House The era of Paul Ryan has begun on Capitol Hill after House Republicans nominated the 45- year-old Wisconsin Congressman to serve as Speaker of the House, setting him up to be the youngest to ascend to the post since before the Civil War.

Speaker of the House

Ryan reluctantly agreed to run only if the various factions inside the House GOP backed him and signed off on his desire to protect his family time with his wife and three young children.

Speaker of the House John Boehner From Ohio: Sworn in as Speaker of the House January 2011 Announced on September 26 to resigns his position as of October 31, 2015

Speaker of the House Why did Boehner Resign? 1. Fractured Republican caucus 2. Repeated fiscal clashes with the White House 3. Failed deal-makings with President Barack Obama

Speaker of the House 1. Boehner has faced constant pressure from conservatives who believe he was too willing to compromise with President Barack Obama and too frequently relied on Democratic votes to pass crucial legislation.

Speaker of the House 2. Conservatives had threatened a revolt and possible government shutdown over spending next week

President Obama and Speaker Boehner “It took me by surprise,” Obama told reporters. “We have obviously had a lot of disagreements and politically we are at different ends of the spectrum, but he has always conducted himself with courtesy and civility with me. President Obama

Speaker of the House Paul Ryan pledged to unify the House Republicans and get the House back on track. "We have an obligation here in the people's house to do the people's business.“

Speaker of the House Ryan said he would run only if he had the support of the three major Republican factions in the House:  the Freedom Caucus  the conservative Republican Study Committee  the moderate Tuesday Group.
