Residential meeting Dates of visit: 27/04/16 to 29/04/16

Aims of Outdoor Education Units Aim to provide the best quality service to the people of this county and beyond, with great emphasis placed on the gains in personal and social development to be had through outdoor learning. Look to provide a caring environment for all where people can feel safe and welcome, and where opportunities exist for learning through discovery and adventure.

Staffing The Centre is led by professionally qualified staff who are responsible for the management and organisation of the Centre, including the safety and welfare of the pupils and students during activity sessions. Oxhey staff are supernumerary and are there in a pastoral and supervisory capacity not to lead the activities. We will leave this for the experts. The course is an extension of school work and not a holiday! It is linked to Summer term Discovery work on contrasting localities.

Health & Safety All the Staffordshire centres are regularly inspected and licensed by the Adventure Activity Licensing Service. All activities are risk assessed and are managed with appropriate control measures. A fire drill will be carried out on the day of arrival to familiarise children with the procedure.

Poorly children Medical forms Pupils who have been in close contact with an infectious disease must be medically cleared or not attend. Teachers are asked to contact Centre staff regarding special diets, severe allergies, bed wetting and other medical conditions where special arrangements will be required. Parents to inform staff in confidence. Parents and schools will be informed of any incident needing hospital treatment. Parents should also be informed of any significant injury before their child returns home. The Centres have no provision for caring for sick children. Any child who is unwell and cannot join in the activities must be returned home.

Medication Where a pupil suffers from hayfever, asthma, epilepsy, or diabetes, it is essential that medication, including inhalers etc, is brought, even though it may not be required. Parental approval will be needed to enable staff to dispense prescribed medication. First Aid kits are located in all Centre buildings along with a list of all qualified First Aiders

Expectations High standards of behaviour are required at all times but especially during activities and at night times. Pupils are not allowed to leave the Centre grounds unless as an organised part of a course. All Outdoor Education Centre buildings are a no smoking area for all staff (including volunteers). There is no provision for pupils to make or receive private calls except in an emergency. Please do not allow children to bring mobile phones No news is good news! We will text you throughout the time away from school. Sadly, there are no spaces for visiting parents.
