WESTERN DIAMONDBACK RATTLESNAKE ADAPTATIONS Western Diamondbacks are Pit Vipers. They have special heat sensing pits located behind the nostrils.

HABITAT This snake can be found in deserts, grassy plains, rocky hillsides and areas around coasts.

RANGE This snake ranges from the South Western United States to Northern Mexico.

DIET This snake eats mostly mice, rats, rabbits, gophers, ground dwelling birds, lizards, and other small animals.

PREDATORS This snakes predators are deer, antelope, cows, horses, hawks, eagles, roadrunners, king snakes, coyote, bobcats, and fox.

HOME During the day these snakes will spend time in the shade under shrubs, piles of natural or artificial debris, and rocks.

SUMMARY Rattlesnakes are interesting snakes but highly poisonous. They can grow 3 to 5 feet long and some grow up to 7 feet long! Its lifespan is approximately 15 to 20 years long.
