The current situation High standards of basic education Science base well developed What’s expected Growth of individual productivity Quick growth of overall productivity

Lisbon’s Strategy and Students The future of the European Union is strictly connected with students. As a matter of fact they are the new resource that can give to Europe a new force. The European Union to be competitive all over the world must become a new economy based on knowledge.

For a knowledge based economy Make a reality of the vision of a knowledge based society Further investment on research and development High quality education system Competitive universities at an international level Development of innovation poles Proposals to simplify mutual recognition of qualifications Stronger investment and use of ICTs Encourage entrepreneurial initiative Emanate new political and social reforms Invest in education and vocational training Give to students the opportunity to have a deep knowledge Give to students skills to be a good worker and a good European citizen

European youth initiative Reduce youth unemployment Facilitate entry into the labour market Unleash the potential of young people Better vocational training Development of apprenticeships Endow the younger generation with the human capital and the skills needed Encourage young people to study scientific subjects

Universities Have a crucial role in creating and spreading knowledge Their contribution to the creation and dissemination of knowledge throughout the Union must be reinforced Their potential and quality in research and science must be increased Must forge stronger ties with industry

Research Further investment on research is required State Aid policy to support research and innovation Adoption of the new Research Framework programme EU level research activities

The reforms that develop EU  New teachers more prepared in their mates  Foreign language knowledge.language  ICT ICT  Investments on research and developping  i2010: european society of information i2010

FOREIGN LANGUAGES The European citizen might speak three languages very well to communicate with all European citizens. For example an Italian might speak English and German and naturally his language. So student must study languages to be a European citizen.

ICTs Provide the backbone for the knowledge economy Account for around half of the productivity growth in modern economies Creation of a “European Institute of Technology” to act as a pole of attraction for the very best minds, ideas and companies from around the world

i2010 i2010 is a society based on knowledge and communication. It provides the adoption of TIC, a clear context, stable and competitive for e-communication and digital service as well as developping research and innovation of TIC.

Proposal to class council In my opinion to develop competence and knowledge teachers might do: 1. lessons in language, for example History in English 2. Homework with PC on the Net 3. Message board to discuss about a lesson theme. 4. Give to students the opportunity to compare themselves with expercts about a discussed theme in tha class

From the Strategy… to developing knowledge Page 5 Page 14 Page 15 Page 27

Page 5 Europe’s actions need more focus Specific knowledge We have to mobilise support for change Encourage young people to study through: - active participation - speeches and debates We need to simplify and streamline Lisbon Efficient study skills Studying according to one’s own talents and interests

Page 14 Getting the different players to work together Develop group work Making sure that objectives are taken on board Focus on the importance of specific knowledge and skills Refocusing efforts on priority and visible objectives Understand minimum required knowledge and the basic information necessary

Page 15 The renewed Lisbon strategy is provided with a stronger focus and gives a clearer sense of priorities Adopt study skills to suit one’s aims Building on the experience of the Programme Gain new skills and knowledge through the use of those already acquired The Commission will work closely with the Parliament and Council Favour group work The Commission will be a facilitator Encourage knowledge and study
