Cumberland County Data Panel Presentation A Sense of Urgency for Our Children. What does the data say?

What does the data on Placement Stability tell us Placement Stability declines significantly for Cumberland County children in care more than 24 months. These children largely represent: – children for whom parental rights have been terminated but an adoption has not been finalized – Transition age youth

What does the data on age of Pending Active/ Adjudicated Cases Tell Us? 64.58% of our Active/ Adjudicated Cases have been active less than 24 months. We need to look further into those active more than 24 months. – How many are in out-of home placement? – What can the Court and Agency do collaboratively to impact these outcomes?

Is Our Data “Good Enough”? In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing. Theodore Roosevelt

Pennsylvania Children’s Roundtable Summit Marc Cherna Director Allegheny County DHS

The percent of children reentering care after achieving permanency varies amongst agencies -- from 14 percent to 50 percent for group home care spells.

For students with no prior DHS involvement, there is alignment between PSSA and GPA performance: 84 percent (1,501) of students who are proficient in reading have a GPA of 2.5 or above. For students involved in DHS, the alignment is not as strong: only 62 percent (729) of students who are proficient in reading have a GPA of 2.5 or above
