Why is it important we teach PDHPE in primary schools? – Elly Haynes.
PDHPE is one of the six key learning areas in the NSW primary curriculum. It is extremely important that we teach our students PDHPE as it encourages students to make informed decisions related to health and physical activity so that they develop an overall healthy lifestyle.
Physical activity builds strength and maintain mobility. Promotes exercise and healthy physical attitudes. Being involved in team sports helps students develop communication skills. Games and sports provide vital skills such as decision making and problem solving.
Physical activity can help children concentrate on their school work better, it helps promote their mood and social skills. Not only does involvement in physical activity benefit students physically, but it also benefits them socially and emotionally.
In PDHPE we teach children about growth and development, Interpersonal relationships, personal health choices and safe living. All these issues help students to lead a healthy active lifestyle.
