Written vs Oral Long, complex sentences Formal language Avoid repetition Entire message in the words Short sentences Conversational language Repetition used for emphasis You can use non-verbal features and improvise

Tips For Success After you have written something try saying it Don’t try to include too many devices; one good one is better than many mediocre ones Make sure there is some sort of logical progression You will speak at about 140 – 160 words per minutes so aim for 700 – 800 words It is easier to shorten a speech rather than lengthen it

Draft Format Write your draft in the following format Write the words you will say over here Write the non-verbal techniques you will use over here Write on every other line Draw a line down the middle
