South America Size South America is 6,880,706 Square miles. It is the 4 th biggest continent in size. Despite it’s size it only has 12 countries.

South American mountains The Andes mountains run over 4,500 miles down the west coast of South America. The highest point in South America is the Aconcagua mountain in Argentina at 22,834 feet. The lowest point in South America is Laguna del Carbon at 344 feet below sea level.

South America waters South America is surrounded by 3 major bodies of water. the Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, and the Caribbean Sea. South America has over 89,829 miles of coast line.

South America Lakes The three largest lakes in South America are: 1)Lake Maracaibo 2) Lake Titicaca 3) Lake Poopo The O'Higgins Lake in South America is the deepest lake at 2,742 ft before you reach the bottom.

South America Rivers The longest river in South America is the Amazon at 3,980 miles. It is the 2 nd longest in the world. It can also be over 6 miles wide at some points!

South America Deserts The Atacama Desert is one of the biggest deserts in South America but it is defiantly the driest. There are some spots in the desert that hasn’t received rain for over 400 years.

South America Random Facts La Paz, Bolivia is the highest capitol city in the world. Angel Falls, Venezuela is the worlds highest waterfall. The Amazon Rainforest is the largest rainforest located in South America.
