To Kill A Mockingbird By: Harper Lee 1960 Derrise Jones

 To Kill A Mockingbird is a story about a stay at home lawyer who is asked to defend an African American who has been falsely accused of sexual assault. The story is told by a young girl, Scout, the lawyers daughter, as she journeys with her older brother they experience some interesting things.

“Jem stayed moody and silent for a week. As Atticus had once advised me to do, I tried to climb into Jem’s skin and walk around in it: if I had gone alone to the Radley Place at two in the morning, my funeral would have been held the next afternoon. So I left Jem alone & tried not to bother him”(65).  When I maxed out my mom’s credit card she was really upset. I tried to talk to her but she just stayed silent, so my granny had advised me to stay silent. I tried to put myself in my mom’s shoes but I couldn’t quite feel the disappointment, I could just see it in her eyes so I left her alone for the day.

“ Andrew Jackson appointed him to a position of authority, and Colonel Maycomb’s misplaced self-confidence and slender sense of direction brought disaster to all who rode with him in Creek Indian Wars”(297).  When I stayed at my granny’s my aunt had to baby-sit me so she was in charge. When she got appointed that position she started to misuse her power. She made me clean everything and do all the chores while she watched TV. She made me miserable.

“ ‘Wonder what he does in there, he murmured.’ Looks like he’d just stick his head out the door’ “(14).  We wondered about our old silent neighbor. He would never come out to talk to us or stop bye for dinner. He just always stared out his window when we went out and played, and he would turn all his lights off exactly at 5,but you could still hear music playing inside his house. We just assumed he was evil.

“Judge Taylor had one interesting habit. He permitted smoking in his courtroom but did not indulge: sometimes if one was lucky, one would have the privilege of watching him put a long dry cigar into his mouth and munch it slowly up” (189).  I like to tell others not to drink so much sodas, but I drink at least two a day.

“Stephanie Crawford, our neighborhood scold, who said she knew the whole thing”(12).  In our neighborhood we have an old women, Miss Mackafee, she is the nosiest woman around and thinks she has the answer to every thing.

“ ‘yes ma’am,miss gates, I reckon they don’t have sense enough to wash themselves, I don’t reckon an idiot could keep his-self clean’ “ (281).  People call me names all the times and talk about me and I don’t care but when they bully others it really makes me upset.

Theme  The theme throughout to kill a mockingbird was you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover.  Everyone was talking about Boo Radley and Tom Robinson, but little did they know that those were two of the most friendliest people of the town.
