Nouns are naming words. They can be people, animals, things or places. Nouns Verbs Verbs are doing words. They are also BEING words (is, are)

Adverbs Adverbs describe how something is done. quietly frantically hungrily crazily Adverbs of: Manner (how) – noisily; with great gusto; great speed Time (when) – before school; at playtime; after dinner Place (where) – in the kitchen; in the bathroom; under the duvet

Adjectives Adjectives are describing words. Pronouns Pronouns replace nouns (e.g. he, she, I, they, him, her etc…)

Prepositions Prepositions give more information about place, position or time. Under, over, next to, opposite, behind, on top of etc… Before, after, earlier, later, in the evening, at dusk etc… In the woods, over the hills, down in the valley etc… Some examples

Articles Articles are words to indicate nouns (i.e. a, an & the)

Clauses A clause is a part of sentence that doesn’t necessarily make sense on its own The man, who was quite old and frail, hobbled around the park. The little boy, who wanted the new PS3 game, pestered his mum all the way to the shop.
