Sir Simon De Canterville was the first owner of Canterville Chase. He was married, but after a few time he killed his wife. The reason? She was ugly, she cooked badly and she didn’t look after Sir Simon’s clothes. Today these reasons would be not accepted, but we’re talking of about three hundred years ago, and so for Sir Simon this is not a tragedy. However for Virginia this is it! She is an American, sweet, pretty girl and she is very educated. Sir Simon told her also that after killing his wife, her brothers took revenge and they locked him in a room with neither food nor drink until he died. This is how he became what he is now: a ghost, the Canterville ghost. From that time, he frightens all the people who come and live in Canterville Chase. But Virginia’s family is not like the others: they are American, they have “no history”, like the ghost says, and they are terrible and unscrupulous people. Virginia tries to calm the ghost, but after a few time she loses the patience and says that he do not know Americans so good to talk well or badly about them. She invites him coming to America, she says that he would be a star in their country. However the ghost continues to refuse Virginia’s suggestions, so she decides to leave him alone and to go away from him. So the ghost asks Virginia to not leave him there all alone, because he’s very sad and tired, as he has not slept for three hundred years: ha says he wants to rest and be forgiven for what he has committed in the past. The story of Sir Canterville: a man become a ghost

American family in haunted house Mr and Mrs Otis and their three children have recently moved into our region's most celebrated haunted house: Canterville Chase. Strange events have been associated with the house ever since the mysterious disappearance of Sir Simon Canterville in the 16th century. While some local people are optimistic about the chances of the new residents, the majority think that they will not stay long once the haunting begins. Our area is rightly proud of its association with one of the most frightening and best-known ghosts in Britain. People think that the Canterville Ghost will soon send the Otis family back across the Atlantic to where they came from. Mrs Umney, the housekeeper at the Chase, told our reposter: “the Americans have not respect for Sir Simon. He will surely take his revenge.” We will keep our readers informed of developments at the ancient house. Our advise to local residents is to stay away from the house untill this dangerous situation is over.

The mistery of the stain TODAY’S NEWS : The Otis family buys canterville Castle and moved ! All members of the family, according to the American spirit, do not believe in ghosts and don't think the castle is haunted by the spirit of the now deceased Sir Canterville. Upon their arrival at the Castle Mr. Otis knows Mrs. Umney, the housekeeper of the House. While the two speaking in the living room of the House, Mr. Otis sees a mysterious stain on the floor; amazed asks the woman what it was and she replied that is a bloodstain, precisely the blood of Lady Canterville, who was killed by her husband in 1575 precisely at the point where the stain is present. Mr. Otis, not believing in such things, laughs at this and immediately works to remove the stain of blood with the Pinkerton's Champion, an effective Cleaner degreaser; immediately the stain disappears but later will appear again. It's really the blood of Lady Canterville? And the story of Sir Canerville it’s really?

Disappearence of Virginia A girl has disappeared near Canterville Chase. Her name is Virginia and she's Mr Hiram Otis's fifteen year old daughter. She is very beautiful, she has lovely large blue eyes and short blonde hair. She was last seen by Cecil, the young Duke of Cheshire, when they went riding together this morning. The young boy told us she tore her jacket and she decided to go back to Canterville Chase to find someone who could mend it. Her family started to worry when she didn't come to their usual afternoon tea. When the police asked, the mother said Virginia had been a bit upset in the last days but she couldn't believe her daughter would have gone away from them. People all around the town are sure it's the ghost's fault, though. In fact, no one has seen the ghost for a long time and everyone is afraid she has been kidnapped by it, as a torture towards the whole family. The family is desperate to find her and the father, Mr Hiram, is willing to give plenty of money as a reward to anyone who will spot her.

The Garden of Death In this part of the book Virginia asked to the Canterville ghost if he hadn’t got a place where he could sleep and he explained that there was a place on the other side of the woods where the flowers are great white stars and the nightingale sings all night long while the cold moon looks down: the garden of death. He wanted to die and stayed at peace and sayed to Virginia that she could help him because she can open the doors of Death’s house because he has Love and Love is stronger than Death. Virginia accepted and sayed that she was not afraid and she will ask the Angel of Death to forgive him. So, Virginia followed the Ghost across the dark room; she started to listen to some voices and eventually they arrived in front of a wall which suddenly opened and they entered in an empty room.

The Funeral of Sir Simon de Canterville The funeral of Sir Simon the Canterville was eventually celebrated! Why this event was so important? Because it’s been celebrated the definitive death of Sir Canterville after hundreds of years from his disappearance. The celebration started at eleven o’clock from Canterville Chase; some black horses pulled the carriages where there were the members of the Otis family. Also Lord Canterville, the former owner of the chase, was there. Finally, they buried the coffin with the bones of Sir Simon de Canterville in the old churchyard. This was considered the “event of the year”; the funeral, in fact, was also attended by a large number of people who knew the story of the Canterville ghost and of the most famous haunted house of our region.
