Standards/Objective EARTH SCIENCE – Earth Systems K-7 Standard E.ES: Develop an understanding of the warming of the Earth by the sun as the major source of energy for phenomenon on Earth and how the sun’s warming relates to weather, climate, seasons, and the water cycle. Understand how human interaction and use of natural resources affects the environment. E.ES Identify natural resources (metals, fuels, fresh water, farmland, and forests). Objective: To learn the stages of the water cycle. Click here to continue

Introduction This STAIR is designed for Mrs. Territo’s imaginary 3 rd grade class. This STAIR is designed for Mrs. Territo’s imaginary 3 rd grade class. You are to work through this project alone. Learning the stages of the water cycle is your goal. The Menu page shows you the different places you can go to learn about each stage. Use the buttons at the bottom to move through the project. You will be given mini-tests along the way to check your learning. Have Fun!

The Cycle Accumulation

Evaporation The changing of a liquid into a gas when you heat it up. Click on the arrow to see more examples of evaporation.

Examples of Evaporation The liquid is changing into a gas called steam, or water vapor

Evaporation: Test Your Knowledge Which is an example of evaporation (click on picture)?

Condensation Gas or vapor changes to a liquid, either by cooling or by being exposed to increased pressure. Gas or vapor changes to a liquid, either by cooling or by being exposed to increased pressure. Click on the arrow to see more examples of condensation.

Condensation Examples When a gas turns directly into a liquid

Condensation: Test Your Knowledge Which is an example of condensation (click on picture)?

What is Precipitation? Click on the arrow to find out.

Precipitation A form of water that becomes too heavy to remain in the sky and falls to Earth’s surface. A form of water that becomes too heavy to remain in the sky and falls to Earth’s surface.

Precipitation: Test Your Knowledge Which is an example of precipitation (click on picture)?

Run-off Water that is not absorbed by the soil and flows to lower ground. Water that is not absorbed by the soil and flows to lower ground. Click on the arrow to see more examples of run-off.

Examples of Run-off The water is running across the ground to a lower level

Run-off: Test Your Knowledge Which is an example of run-off (click on picture)?

What is Accumulation? Click on the arrow to find out.

Accumulation An amount of material (water or snow) that is collected in one location
