The Water Cycle! An Introduction and Presentation on The Water Cycle By Anna Waurzyniak

What is the water cycle? The water cycle, or hydrological cycle, is the continuous movement of water on, above and below the Earth’s surface. There are three stages of the water cycle: – Evaporation – Condensation – Precipitation

What is Evaporation? Evaporation is the heating of liquid water into a gas, which escapes the Earth’s surface and rises into the atmosphere.

What is Condensation? Condensation is the cooling and formation of water droplets in the Earth’s atmosphere. Do you see clouds outside? They contain millions of water droplets waiting to form into precipitation!

What is Precipitation? Precipitation is the result of condensing water droplets in the Earth’s atmosphere. Precipitation doesn’t just mean rain, it includes: – Hail, Snow, Sleet Snow forms when freezing-cold air is present. Rain forms when many droplets gather together and become too heavy to stay in the atmosphere. Hail forms when frozen droplets are pushed up and down in the atmosphere by air currents, making them larger until they fall.

Conclusion! The water cycle has three stages: evaporation, condensation and precipitation – Evaporation: the heating of water from the Earth’s surface into the atmosphere. – Condensation: the cooling of water vapor in the atmosphere. – Precipitation: the accumulation and release of water droplets, snow, hail or sleet from the atmosphere.

Pop Quiz! Get into groups of four to compete in a small game to see how much you know! Each group will use a clicker to choose their answer, which will be shown to be either correct or false. Don’t be nervous about the quiz, it’s still a way to have fun and learn!

What is condensation? A) The cooling of water vapor in the atmosphere. C) Rain, hail, snow, or sleet. B) The heating of water into vapor, or gas, which rises into the atmosphere.

What is hail? A) A stage in the water cycle. C) A type of precipitation that consists of frozen water droplets being pushed around in the atmosphere, growing larger until they fall. B) The evaporation of water.

What are the stages of the water cycle? A) Evaporation, condensation, precipitation. C) Water moving around. B) Rain, snow, hail, and sleet.

What is precipitation? A) Water sitting on the Earth’s surface. B) Water that has accumulated into droplets in the atmosphere, which can either stay liquid or become frozen to turn into hail or snow. C) Water that is being heated.

What is evaporation? A) Water vapor that is being cooled to freezing temperatures in the atmosphere. C) Anything that falls from the sky. B) Water that is being heated and turned into water vapor, or a gas, which then enters the Earth’s atmosphere.
