Minutes of the Meeting IoT WG GISFI#6 Neemrana, Rajasthan 1 IoT_MoM_Sept_2011GISFI # 06, Sept , 2011

Session was conducted by IoT WG Chair Mr. Debasis Bandyopadhyay (TCS) in presence of Vice Chair Mr. Arpan Pal (TCS). Chairman GISFI announced that Mini Vasudevan (Ericsson) will be the new Vice Chair of IoT WG. There were 4 presentations conducted in this session –Presentation by (i) WG Chair Debasis Bandyopadhyay (TCS), (ii) IoT System Architecture ToC by C. Shankar Ganesh (NEC), (iii) IoT system Architecture and its components and interfaces by Soma Bandyopadhyay (TCS) and (iv) Landslide use-case by Hemant Rath (TCS) IoT_MoM_Sept_2011GISFI # 06, Sept , 2011 Minutes of the Meeting 2

During the session a committee for defining the “process” for all work groups (WGs of GISFI) was announced by Prof. Ramjee Prasad, Chairman GISFI. –Anil Kripalani is the coordinator of the committee and Ashok Chatterjee (Ericsson), Anand Prasad (NEC) and Debasis Bandyopadhyay (IoT WG Chair, TCS) are the other members of the committee. –This committee will submit its report by 1 st Nov, Chair suggested that a repository of all the requirements/use- cases/TR documents should be maintained for the benefit of IoT. Vice Chair suggested that we should upload all documents in the IoT WG and wait for comments/reviews/suggestions/feedback before the presentation. –All the feedback should come within 15 days. IoT_MoM_Sept_2011GISFI # 06, Sept , 2011 Minutes of the Meeting 3

There was a discussion about the name of IoT architecture and it was suggested and agreed that the name “IoT System Reference Architecture” will be used instead. It was agreed that IoT WG should not get into the details of a sensor/device, its design and implementation rather should focus on the interfaces exposed by the access gateway/middle-ware and the requirements of the interfaces driven by the use cases. Modification required into the generic document presented by NEC - like removing the term software, sensor device etc. –Section 6.2 and 10 are also to be removed. Vice Chair proposed to combine the generic document of NEC (ToC document) and architecture document presented by TCS. All documents should be version controlled and there should be a provision for on-line editing during discussions/ standard-body meeting as suggested by Mr. Kiritkumar Lathia. IoT_MoM_Sept_2011GISFI # 06, Sept , 2011 Minutes of the Meeting 4

Written documents should be prepared before the discussion; which will lead to a stable document creation – IoT WG is already following this. References should clearly explain the type: informative/normative. There is a need of “loop back” in the presented architecture by TCS and to make the sensors as addressable sensors in place of “Internet Enable Devices”, suggested by Mr Anil Kriplani, TCS agreed on this. Also there is a suggestion to remove the division of the IoT core, TCS is agreed on this. Manageability of sensors may not be possible under IoT WG as raised by VNL. IoT_MoM_Sept_2011GISFI # 06, Sept , 2011 Minutes of the Meeting 5

Sensors may not be visible and hence, I1 interface should explain a set of expectations/capability. Moreover, authentication needs to be looked into from the IoT angle. –TCS explained about the requirement of device discovery, device manageability and where exactly these functionalities belong to as a part of sensor middleware for the addressable sensors. There was a general discussion whether I1 interface should be treated as optional or mandatory interfaces – VNL suggested to make it optional, whereas NEC, NIKSUN suggested that I1 should be made mandatory. –Further discussions are required to finalize this. TCS suggested to follow the work of other standard bodies such as ITU, ETSI etc. IoT_MoM_Sept_2011GISFI # 06, Sept , 2011 Minutes of the Meeting 6

The points like Metadata structure, mode of usage (proactive/reactive), controlling service for the landslide detection use-case presented by TCS was clarified by Vice Chair, IoT WG and TCS. –It was agreed that IoT WG needs to explain the metadata structure in detail for all IoT use-cases. Ericsson agreed on the architecture presented by the TCS and logic behind the partitioning of the interfaces – TCS explained how interfaces are playing the role of abstraction.
