 Mexicans call soccer futbol. In a bullfight a matador faces a bull in a bullring.  Charreria is a rodeo sport. Horse riders compete in events.

 Masks where not invented by Mexicans,but they have been making masks for more than 3,000 years.  Tarahumara people famous for beautiful yucca baskets.

 One of the most famous kinds of music is mariachi.  A special instrument played in mariachi is called guitarron, a guiterron looks a lot like a guitar but has a bigger body and a smaller neck.  The guitarron makes a deep and clear sound.

 Another instrument played in mariachi is called a vihuela.  A vihuela looks like a tiny guitar but a guitar has six strings and a vihuela has five. The vihuela makes a beautiful, high pitched sound.  Mariachi bands play at dances, festivals, weddings and other events.

 A piñata is a very unusual type of toy because it is beautiful on the outside and candy inside.  A chia pet is something you rub seeds and water and it will grow “fur”.  Artists in Oaxaca are famous for handmade dolls.

 Tortillas are made of wheat or corn, tortillas are a part of Mexican dishes.  Wraps are cooked tortillas wrapped around cheese, chicken, beans, and other foods.  Mexicans eat jalapeno peppers, jalapeno peppers are very spicy!  10,000 years ago, people began growing squash.

 Almost all Mexicans speak Spanish, which is the country’s official language.  Buenos dias means hello. Adios means good-bye. Por favor means please.

 Gracias means thank you. Pelota means ball. Mariposa means butterfly. Chicle means chewing gum. Maiz means corn. Perro means dog. Musica means music.

 One of Mexico’s festival/holiday is called Cinco de Mayo, which means Fifth of May in Spanish.  On September 15 th and 16 th Mexicans celebrate Mexican Independence Day.

 On November 2 Mexicans celebrate a holiday called The Day of the Dead.  On the Day of the Dead many people observe this day by making masks, toys, and candy.

 A serape can be used as a blanket or a scarf.  The sombrero is a famous type of hat.  Mexicans make colored bags called morrales.

 A shawl is supposed to be worn over your shoulders.  A rebozo is a traditional shawl that women were, it can be worn in many different ways.
