The Book of Proverbs Chapter 1:8-19; Wisdom Calls out to All.
Vs , This third sermon is an exhortation to not associate with the sinner.
Vs. 15, getting on the wrong path is almost an irreversible course of action that quickly swallows you up in their type of sin.
Vs. 16, the 1 st argument why we should stay away from the wrong crowd. Two of the seven abominations of God. Prov 6:17-18; cf Isa 59:7
Vs. 17 is the 2 nd argument. Because sin lies in wait for the unsuspecting believer, the one without Bible Doctrine and discernment.
If we have our eyes on satan’s cosmic system, we will be caught up in the trap (sin). Yet, if we have our eyes on Christ (doctrine in the soul) we will avoid the trap. Heb 12:2
Vs. 18, the 3 rd argument. The sinner brings self- destruction upon himself.
Vs. 19, These types are digging their own grave, Psa 7:14-16; 9:15-16, and we will too if we go along with them.
Job 8:13, “So are the paths of all who forget God; and the hope of the godless will perish.”
Vs The solution for not getting involved with the wrong crowd.
Vs , Bible Doctrine is made available to everyone, and keeps on being available.
Everyone will be without excuse as to why they did not appropriate for themselves the wisdom of God.
“Noisy” is the verb HAMAH, “to murmur, growl, roar or be boisterous.” For the whiners and complainers, “this doctrine is for you!”
Vs. 22, The pleading of “Wisdom” to be given entrance into the souls of those who most need it, categorized in three groups.
1. “Naïve ones”, PETHI – The immature believer who continues to reject the intake and application of God’s Word.
“The immature love being immature.” “Love” - AHEB, Emotional overload of the soul.
Instead of having a disposition to acquire the Lord’s revealed wisdom, they yearn with passionate desire to remain uncommitted to God, open to alluring sin.
We should never be afraid of being challenged. It is the only way we are going to grow!
2. The “scoffer”, LUTS, (arrogant), is the believer who takes a dim view of Bible doctrine. He delights in scorning and downgrades God’s Word.
Psa 1:1, “How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers! 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night.”
They are unable to learn from the warnings, reproof or punishment of those who are more wise than they. Prov. 9:7f; 13:1; 14:6; 15:12; 19:25
3. “Fools”, KESIL, the culmination of the first two groups, who now hate “knowledge”, DAATH, (i.e., God’s Word). Cf. Prov 1:4, 7
Luke 19:4, “But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us.”
