What is Integrated land use planning? a process which promotes the co-ordinated development and management of land and related resources in order to maximize the resultant economic and social welfare in an equitable manner without compromising the sustainability of vital ecosystems.

Why Integrated Land Use Planning in Ngamiland? Our environment is highly complex and sensitive We subscribe to sustainable Development: Vision 2016-NDP 9-DDP 6 There are multiple stakeholders (Including RAMSAR) Interests and objectives are numerous Information and knowledge is fragmented Control is fragmented The external environment is in flux There are conflicts between the human stakeholder and between people and wildlife

Issues raised by stakeholders During ODMP Consultation Process Problem Animals; (Elephants destroying crops, Predators killing livestock, inadequate compensation etc.) Land Use and Land Management (land allocation delays, allocation guidelines) Flow Reduction, Channel Blockage and spreading of Salvinia More local involvement in and higher incomes from Tourism; lack of Government support in CBNRM Conflict over fishing grounds, fear of introduction of restrictions Livestock Management (Veterinary Fences not maintained) Lack of consultation and participation in decision making Concerns over waste management and pollution in villages and tourism camps Vegetation (frequent uncontrolled fires, lack of control over veld products utilisation)
