Pink Dolphins of HK. By Lap Yan Chow 8M

What are Pink Dolphins? Pink Dolphins are the only species of dolphins in Hong Kong. ( Sousa chinensis chinensis ) They are actually a sub species of the Chinese white dolphin, making them a light pink, Hence the dolphin’s name. they migrated to HK when the hybrid was first produced.

Why are the Dolphins Pink? The Pink Dolphins are actually black when they are born. when they are young, they turn greyish with spots. The skin colour starts to turn pink and spots will fade out when they become adults. The adult’s body is pink because of the blood vessels wrapped around the dolphin to stop it from overheating.

What are the Dolphin’s Diet? Pink Dolphin’s diet consists of small crustaceans such as crabs, shrimps etc., other small fishes in the harbors, but they are generally scavengers. So, they eat left out stuff in the ocean too.

Are the Dolphins comfortable with their habitat? Generally, the dolphins in HK are NOT happy with their habitat because of the pollution and the over fishing of creatures from the sea, making the dolphins harder to survive in these putrid habitats.

The Population of Pink Dolphins The population of the Pink Dolphins in HK are approximately 120 of them, which are relatively small. But, they have a steady population, allowing them to reproduce, so they can survive to the next generation
