Business to consumer transactions are what made this country what it is today. Whether it was coins, cash, check, or even IOU’s, transactions between the two have been around for centuries. As we move into the information age, business to consumer transactions have not been expanded to an exchange within the internet. Transactions between business’ and consumers’ can now happen without the meeting in person. E-commerce has been born. 1

In 1968, the emergence of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) allowed different companies to perform electronic dealings with each other. It wasn't until 1984 that the ASC X12 standard established itself as a reliable means to handle a large number of transactions. In 1992, the Mosaic web-browser was made available, it was the first ‘point and click’ browser In May 1998, DSL expanded across California. This technology allowed people who where previously connecting to the Internet at 28.8 kilobits per second to now connect at 50 times that speed. 2
