Climate-KIC Climate-KIC and ERRIN have signed a memorandum of understanding at the Committee of the Regions in Brussels on 19 th March 2014, agreeing to develop joint activities and share information. MoU

Climate-KIC 3 Climate-KIC and ERRIN recognise that: They have many objectives and interests in common especially as Climate-KIC has embraced an organisational structure that includes a grouping of six major regions covering western, eastern and southern Europe: Central Hungary, Emilia-Romagna in Italy, Hessen in Germany, Lower Silesia in Poland, Valencian Region in Spain and the West Midlands in the UK. Four of these Regions are currently in ERRIN. Climate-KIC is also expanding its links with regions via outreach activities that will mean six more regions being associated with the Climate-KIC. Each region brings together a cluster of key innovation players – public agencies, large and small companies, universities and research bodies – to develop new ideas and initiatives for climate change mitigation and adaptation. This innovation ecosystem approach fits perfectly the thinking and activities of ERRIN. ERRIN has established a successful ‘Energy and climate change’ Working Group as well as other working groups that will be of interest to Climate-KIC such as ‘smart specialisation’ and ‘smart cities, communities and regions’. Climate-KIC 4 Climate-KIC and ERRIN are interested in improving coordination and collaboration in RTD & Innovation, enhancing the competitiveness of the European energy and climate sector and in contributing to supporting activities that will mitigate climate change and improve resource efficiency. To this end Climate-KIC and ERRIN will: a)Explore opportunities to join forces to contribute to developing common actions involving EU institutions responding to climate change, industrial and resource efficiency strategies in the interests of both memberships, e.g. aligning responses to European Commission consultations and inquiries; b)Encourage the sharing of resources in cooperative research and innovation activities and their applications, as well as in prospective activities and scientific brainstorming in action or working groups; c)Collaborate in organising events including knowledge transfer on scientific, innovation and demonstration projects or focused on dissemination of knowledge and products. Climate-KIC 5 1)The joint activities should be coordinated by a Coordinating Committee consisting of the CEO of Climate-KIC and Chair of ERRIN or their nominees both. The Coordinating Committee shall meet physically at least twice a year and develop a joint action plan for cooperation involving relevant Climate-KIC bodies and ERRIN Working Groups. 2)The two parties will together investigate and consider the matters set out in this document with the aim of developing a more intense future collaboration. Where the parties agree on areas from which mutual benefit can be achieved, the parties will sign an appropriate legally binding agreement for the purpose when necessary. 3)The Coordinating Committee should also consider strategic issues of common interest and take initiatives to explore further cooperation activities. Climate-KIC 6 1)Climate-KIC and ERRIN agreed to promote information exchange and mutual reporting on developments that are of interest for both sides. For example:  Representatives of the ERRIN Energy and Climate Change Working Groups will be invited to attend relevant Climate-KIC regional meetings as an observer and vice versa.  When topics of mutual interest need to be dis­cus­sed they will be put on the agenda of relevant regional meetings of Climate-KIC and relevant ERRIN Working Group and Board meetings of ERRIN. 2)Results of the collaboration shall be promoted mutually through relevant websites and newsletters.
