Force Grade 3-5

Force A push or pull that causes an object to stop, move, or change direction

Movement/Motion A change in position or location

Gravity The force that pulls objects toward the center of Earth

Pull Use force to move towards

Push Use force to move an object away

Friction A force that slows or stops motion when objects run together

Potential Energy Energy that is stored Not Moving

Shape The outline or form of an object

Position Where an object is located

Direction The line or course along which something is moving

Kinetic Energy Energy in motion

Swing Move through an arc back and forth

Pendulum A weight suspended from a string that swings freely

Work Using a force to move an object a distance.

pulley A machine consisting of a wheel over which a pulled rope or chain runs to change the direction of the pull used for lifting a load

Spring Scale An instrument that measures Earth’s gravitational pull on an object

Air resistance TheThe way that air slows down a moving object.waythatairslowsdownamovingobject

velocity the speed of something in a given direction.

Magnetism Attraction to a magnet because it contains iron or steel
