LEGISLATIVE POWERS Propose legislation The president has certain topics he wants to get across during his term(s) in office He announces it each January to joint session of Congress Veto Power Reject certain bills that pass Congress that he does not like
OTHER POWERS Special Sessions He can call Congress to meet when he deems necessary (war, budget, etc.) Pardon federal criminals Excepts impeachment Example: Ford pardoned Nixon from Watergate scandal
MILITARY ACTION Respond to certain crisis's 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, Haiti earthquake, etc. Libya/vietnam Can be limited by Congress and declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court
