The principles of art are the organizational techniques or tools used by artists to arrange the elements of art. There are 8 principles in art.

PATTERN Pattern A principle of art that is concerned with decorative surface design.

PROPORTION Proportion A principle of art concerned with the size relationships of one part to another.

RHYTHM Rhythm A principle of art that indicates movement by the repetition of elements or objects.

BALANCE Balance A principle of art concerned with equalizing visual forces or elements in a work of art.

VARIETY Variety A principle of art concerned with difference or contrast

EMPHASIS Emphasis A principle of art that makes one part of a work dominant over the other parts.
