- significant group of Protestants - they were hostile to official Church authorities - they censured what they termed the “superstitious” symbols of Catholicism, such as statues and sacerdotal vestments. - they had very strictly moral values. Who were the Puritans??

- The Puritans believed that the Bible was God's true law, and that it provided a plan for living. - The established church of the day described access to God as monastic and possible only within the confines of "church authority". - The Puritans had their own unique community and cultural practices, most of them based on their religious beliefs.
