Presentation transcript:

“I had a really bad day at school today and I posted “Lockview Sucks” later on facebook. As a school leader, do I have the obligation to be positive always?” In my own public arena – do I need to follow school rules? Can I say what I want on facebook Is it okay to talk about someone as long as I don’t use their name? What if a teacher sees it? Should I be bothered by it?

I am running for Grade 12 Rep on Students Council. I heard that my opponent broke a campaign rule by handing flyers out early. Can I do the same? If I know that my opponent won’t do a good job, should I tell people? Do I really know they won’t do a good job?

Suppose I don’t live in the school boundaries, but I give a false address to get in. The school board estimates that there are several hundred students doing the same around the board. This affects your education because it means classes at some schools will be more crowded, while at other schools, fewer classes are being offered. It costs each school about $7000 per student for year of education.

Do you turn me in? Is it your responsibility? What if I am a friend? What if I am the star hockey player and we are on our way to winning the provincials? And you are also on the team? What if I am in grade 11 and have been here since gr. 9? Isn’t this my parent's fault? Should I talk to my parents about this? What if they ask me to lie?

I am applying for college and am working on my resume & applications. I included that I was President of the Film/Video Club. We met at the beginning of the year to form the club and met twice to see part of a film, but only 3 people came so now we mostly just record goofy stuff on our own and post it on Youtube. Should I put that I was Club President? Is it fair to put something on a resume that is likely to be interpreted differently than what I did? Is it fair to inflate a resume if no one else will find out? What if my tutor helped me edit my application essay (a lot)? Is it really my writing? What about someone who can’t afford a tutor? Aren’t I just using my resources effectively?

Suppose I copy someone’s homework (that was only worth a few points). At the end of the semester I get an 89.5 % which rounds up to a 90 and I get Honours. If I hadn’t gotten those assignment points, I wouldn’t have gotten the 90. Do I deserve to be on the Honours list? If I realize now that I was wrong, is everything OK now? What if “Honours” gives me a spot at a certain university Is it the teacher’s fault for not catching the copying? If you were the teacher, and caught them, what would you do?
