The Budget 19 th March

This is George Osborne. He works for the government as the Chancellor. He is in charge of the budget this year. The money for the budget comes from taxes, which are collected by the government from people living in the country throughout the year. Every year in March, the Government must decide how to spend this money.

The Chancellor must decide how to divide the money between different things. This includes schools, hospitals, the army and the police force… and even our country’s football team.

On the 19 th March, the Chancellor will go to 10 Downing Street for a special meeting. He will carry a red briefcase. Inside the red briefcase will be the plans for the budget. If you look out on the news, you’ll see him carrying it in.

What do you think the budget should be spent on?
