2014 Spring Semester- Week 4

Step One  Make a brief introduction of Total Physical Response with a PPT (10 minutes)  Tell the students in their native language (5 minutes): 1. They will be studying English in a way that is similar to the way they learned their native language. 2. They will not speak at first. 3. They will just listen to the teacher and do as the teacher does. 4. The teacher will give the students a command to do something in English, and they will do the actions along with the teacher.

Step Two  Activity 1: The teacher gives the commands to four volunteers and they all perform the actions together. (15 minutes)  During the activity, the teacher has to perform the actions with the students. invite students to take turns to be volunteers and perform the actions.

Step Three  Activity 2: The teacher gives command again; however, this time, the teacher remains seated and watches the volunteers respond to her commands. (10 minutes)  During the activity, the teacher has to invite different students to be volunteers. signal different individuals of the volunteers to follow the teacher’s commands and act alone.

Step Four  Activity 3: The teacher introduces some new commands after he/she is satisfied with student’s performance on the first round of commands. (10 minutes)  During the activity, the teacher has to make students practice several times of the new commands. remain seated and watch the volunteers to carry out the commands by themselves. ask the rest of students to follow her commands and perform together.

Step Five  Activity 4: The teacher uses a novel command and issues two commands in the form of a compound sentence (10 minutes).  During the activity, the teacher has to writes the new commands on the board. Each time he/she writes a command, he/she acts it out. ask students to copy the sentences into their notebooks.
