Amazing Facts About Our planet Earth

Our Planet is home to an estimated 5 million to 100 million species Only 2 million have been Identified That is only 10% of all living things on Earth Earth’s unique place in the Solar System allows for various types of ecosystems or Biomes

Earth –The Blue Planet 70% of its surface is covered by water. It reflects about 1/3 rd of sunlight it receives. The earth’s atmosphere scatters the light & creates a blue effect so it is called The Blue Planet.. Earth is 4.54 Billion Years Old.

Earth’s Ecosystem's Earth’s Ecosystem's

The Rainforest Two types: Temperate and Tropical. Rainforests used to cover 14% of the Earth’s surface but due to deforestation now only cover around 6%. Over 25% of natural medicines have been discovered in rainforests Rainforests have 170,000 of the world’s 250,000 known plant species. Every year new species of mammals, birds, frogs, and reptiles are found in rainforests.

The Amazon Rainforest, located in South America is the largest tropical rainforest on Earth.

OCEANS While there are hundreds of thousands of known marine life forms, there are many that are yet to be discovered, some scientists suggest that there could actually be millions of marine life forms out there. Ocean tides are caused by the Earth rotating while the Moon and Sun’s gravitational pull acts on ocean water. The five Oceans are: the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Arctic Ocean and the Southern Ocean The Pacific Ocean is the biggest ocean in the world it covers more than 30% of the world. The Great Barrier Reef located in Australia Is the largest coral reef in the world.

Deserts Original Definition: An abandoned place. Deserts generally receive less than 16in of rain a year. Around one third of the Earth's surface is covered in deserts. The largest hot desert on Earth is The Sahara. Deserts are home to a range of well suited plant life including various shrubs and cacti. They are also home to animals such as lizards and coyote. Deserts often contain large mineral deposits. The Sahara Desert is located in northern Africa, spanning 12 different countries. The largest cold desert on Earth is Antarctica

These are only a few of the wonderful ecosystem's on Earth and they are all home to a variety of plants and animals who are all necessary for life. The ocean is polluted, on a regular basis, by: oil, solid garbage, fertilizers, sewage, and toxic chemicals. Almost 800 species on Earth have become extinct. We must all work together to make our planet healthy again. Earth Day Video For Kids
