About the project: an Accompanying Measure under the "Growth" Thematic Program of the Fifth Framework Program of the EU. duration June 1st 2003 – May 31st 2005 addressed to Polish small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) involved in surface transport (road, rail and water-borne), funding new technologies and products or take up of new technologies and products. Project partners: The project was implemented by the Polish National Contact Point for EU Research Programs (project coordinator) and the Spanish consultancy company CARSA. DonQ-Pol

Aim: Promotion of Polish Transport-related SME in European R&D Programs DonQ-Pol ResearchSMEs Projects

Objective: The objective of DonQ POL was to raise awareness on European research programs among Polish transport SMEs and to increase their participation in FP6 projects, in particular: Co-operative Research projects, which provide financing for new technologies and products for a selected group of SMEs; Collective Research projects, which provide financing for new technologies and products for a selected sector of SMEs STREPs (Specific Targeted Research Projects), which allow for the take-up of new technologies and products; and in new FP6 instruments, including Integrated Projects and Networks of Excellence. Project workplan: 1.The project work plan was based on the DonQ methodology 2.The project activities were structured around two complementary areas. –The first area was based on permanent contacts –the second involved technical measures, initial evaluation of ideas, consultancy and advice, preparation of project dossiers. Both areas of activities took into account the individual needs and suggestions put forward by SMEs. DonQ-Pol

DonQ-Pol offers: evaluation of the potential for participating in FP6 projects; assistance in preparing project proposals; participation in FP6 workshops; assistance in creating project consortia. DonQ-Pol

Advantages for SMEs: co-financing of innovation, technological needs, new products and services co-operation with Polish and European research institutions in the area of surface transport increased business opportunities in the European market DonQ-Pol

Advantages for Industry: co-financing of innovation, technological needs and new products access to highest quality products from SMEs involved in the supply chain DonQ-Pol

Advantages for R&D Units: implementation of new methods and solutions in response to specific technological needs of SMEs financing of research projects addressed to SMEs co-operation with SMEs on Polish and European projects DonQ-Pol

Project phases-outcomes: PAST 1.technological diagnosis carried out in 20 SMEs; 2.identification and description 11 project ideas; 3.preparation and submission of 6 Project Dossiers; FUTURE further dissemination activities aimed at increasing the participation of Polish SMEs in the Sixth Framework Program; adaptation of the DonQ method to Polish conditions and its validation in the transport sector; transfer of the DonQ method to other countries and sectors.
