10 GRINDING Grinding is that process by which a feedstuff is reduced in particle size by impact (forcing), shearing (cutting), or attrition (friction). Expose greater surface area for digestion. Improve ease of handling of some ingredients. Improve mixing characteristics of ingredients. Increase pelleting efficiency & pellet quality. Satisfy customer preference.

11 PELLETING Pelleting is the agglomeration (collact into a mass) of feed by compacting & forcing it through die openings by mechanical process. Feed is pelleted for the purpose of ;  Facilitating mechanization in handling. Eliminating fines & dust, increasing palatability.  Increasing feed density, thereby lessening transportation & labor costs.  Reduce storage space  Improving the nutritional value of feedstuff through instantaneous heat & pressure.

12 CONDITIONS WHICH INFLUENCE PELLET QUALITY  Raw material composition.  Seasonal effect.  Grinding.  Binders- naturals or artificial.  Fat/Oil addition.  Conditioning with steam.  Pellet press capacity (throughput).  Die Thickness, hole diameter, speed, working area  Cooling.  Storing.  Process control.
