Deviance Interactionists By: Eric Hadley, Brittany Peckels, Brandon Kennedy, Dana Roach

What is the Cause of Deviance? From an interactionist standpoint, causes of deviance come from within someone. I If a person grows up around violent or abusive parents, that type of deviance will embed itself into the person. nteractionists believe that causes of deviance sprout from previous deviance that one has lived through, and based upon this theory, peoples' mental states are key in why deviance occurs.

How prevalent is deviance at the local, state and national levels? Crime stats 2007 Oneida County: Acts of violence- 37 Murder-0 Rape-11 Robbery-1 Agg. assault- 25 (side note: crime rates have gone down from 2006's stats) Local Deviance:

State Deviance: Crime stats 2007 WI: Acts violence-288 Murder-3 Rape-22 Robbery-97 Agg.assault-167 Burglary-493 Theft-238 Arson- 16 Crime stats 2007 WI: Acts violence-288 Murder-3 Rape-22 Robbery-97 Agg.assault-167 Burglary-493 Theft-238 Arson- 16

National Deviance:

Are crime rates a true measurements of deviance?

How can some subcategories of people be labeled as “deviant” by society? Even on a national level, people are not committed for the crimes they do. Differential Association is a learning theory which focuses on the process by which individuals come to commit criminal acts. Criminal behavior is learned in interaction with others in a process of communication. When a person is surrounded or in interaction with a deviant person, through their interaction with one another, deviant behavior is learned and passed on
