Open Your ImagesOpen Your Images In Photoshop open the two images that you would like to merge together. One should be a silhouette portrait. One should be an environment, landscape, or texture.
Remove BackgroundRemove Background With your silhouette portrait open remove the background by selecting the subject and adding a layer mask. Use the quick selection or pen tool to select the subject. Add a layer mask.
Open other image and drag it into your silhouette file.
Hold the Command key and click on the silhouette layer mask. Then go to the other image and add a layer mask by clicking on the layer mask icon at the bottom of the layers palette.
With the top image selected change the blending mode to screen.
Options At this point you can play with a few options. Change the opacity of the top image. Make the top image black and white. Play with the contrast of the top layer. Use masking to bring out certain areas of each image. Use a grunge brush to roughen up the edges. View the following slides to see examples.
