Types of KISS questions 1. Redundancy: When two words are used that mean essentially the same thing. Jorge promptly began his work right away 2. Wordiness: When a lot of words are used to say something that could be stated more simply. Leila loved her new kitten more than all the stars in the sky.

Term Identification (Things you already know ) 1. Independent clause: Contains a subject and a verb. Stands alone as a complete sentence 2. Dependent clause: Contains a subject and a verb but does NOT stand alone as a complete sentence.

Writing Compound Sentences

There are three ways to join independent clauses to create compound sentences. 1) Using a comma and a coordinating conjunction 2) Using a semicolon 3) Using a semicolon and a conjunctive adverb

FORMULA: IC + Comma FANBOY + IC

2. Use a Semicolon The teacher lectured for an hour; his students slept soundly. Semicolons can only been used when joining independent clauses. Semicolon = comma + FANBOY FORMULA: IC + semicolon + IC
