Presentation transcript:

Lesson 4, Working with Tabs Make sure you take notes over Lesson 4. To do this, open a new document and begin recording this information. In addition, you can use this document to do your Lesson 4 Actions. You can also save this same document as Lesson 4 Actions. I’ll give you just a minute to open the document and get ready.

Tab – is a stop to organize material on page Five types of tabs 1. Left – typed characters begin at the left and move to the right 2. Center – information is centered under a specific heading 3. Right Tab – typed characters begin at the right and then move to the left 4. Bar Tab – Set up a vertical line between the columns of text 5. Decimal Tab – Align columns of numbers with decimal points

Two methods to set tabs 1. Ruler - Easiest 2.Tab Selector – Most precise/exact The “L” appears when you insert a tab. The “L” means a left tab.

Setting Tabs must be clicked after you set up your tabs Clear ONLY one tab To start over, Clear All Tabs Default Tabs Stops

An arrow is a non-print character when you press the tab key There are two ways to delete a tab stop. 1) Insert the position of the tab stop in the tab stop position window. 2) Point at the tab stop on the ruler with your insertion point. Holding the mouse down, move the tab into the body of the letter and it will be deleted.

Does this look familiar? It should; it’s page IV from your book’s table of contents

Notice the dots that “leads” the eyes from one side of the page to the other, hence, the word “leaders” Leaders

Types of Leaders: a.Choice #1 – None b.Choice #2 – Dots at the bottom of the line c.Choice #3 – Dots at the middle of the line d.Choice #4 – Solid line at the bottom of the line

Types of Leaders: Just as with the tabs, you can “Set,” “Clear,” or “Clear All.” Once you have made the changes, make sure you click on OK to save the changes.

Time to apply what we’ve learned: A.Insert tab stops at 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5, and 5.5; B.Change the page margins to.5 (one- half inch) on top, bottom, left and right C.Delete the 5.5 tab D.Change the 4.5 tab to right alignment; insert leader choice #2

Time to apply what we’ve learned: E.Change the 3.5 tab to a center alignment; insert a leader of choice #3 F.Change the 2.5 tab with leader of choice #4

Insert the following headings: 1.Time 2.Period 3.Class 4.T-LN 5.S-FN Assignment: Use these headings to insert correct information in your table for all of your seven classes, not including lunch. Use abbreviations for classes!! When finished, save your document as: Lesson 4, Working with Tabs

Your end document for this assignment should be similar to: Left Margin 1.5 tab; align left 2.5 tab; align left; leader tab; center; leader tab; right align; leader 2

Open a new document to prepare for: Organizing List Information

Notice the plus sign and minus sign. The plus means there’s more information. The minus indicates this is the end of information.

Notice this plus sign and minus sign that in the outline tools. The plus sign means expand while the minus sign means collapse. These two arrows mean that you can move up or move down information
