Hardware Ergonomics Quiz Solutions

Fill in the Blanks CTS is a common injury that occurs when there is poor ergonomics in a work environment. This injury is an example of a(n) MSI. The heart of the computer is the motherboard, because every component sits on, or is connected to it in some way A(n) network card (or modem) is an example of an expansion card. This device allows a computer to connect with other computers.

Fill in the Blanks (continued) There are two main types of memory in a computer. RAM is temporary and is where applications are stored while in use. ROM is permanent and is mainly used by system software. A(n) peripheral is any device that is connected to a computer that expands the capabilities of that computer. Heat sinks are attached to the CPU (or microprocessor) to help maintain a reasonable internal temperature. Optical Drives are used to read or write data to CDs or DVDs.

Draw a Diagram - LAN Needed to Show: Two or more computers connected together And geographical area (one building but not a home!)

SRB’s Network MAN Star 4 Categories of Hardware Input Output Processing Storage

Ergonomic Criteria Desk –Sufficient leg room and surface space –Rounded corners, light – medium finish Mouse & Keyboard –Elbow at 90 degree – should move and click freely Monitor –Top of monitor at eye level, cleaned frequently –Flat screen, 60 cm away from face Chairs –Knees should be at 90 degree angle with feet flat on floor –Padded, but firm for support, 4 legs for stability

Free!!! Improvements to 107 Monitors are always dusty and dirty - Clean monitors regularly – helps prevents allergies and illness from germs (make total environment healthier) Crowded work areas - Move the towers to the floor – increase total work area – decreases stress on muscles because everything in easy reach Monitors are too close to user - Move tables farther away from wall in order to be able to push monitors further from user – decreases eye strain Others … needed to be clear on what you are describing, and the ergonomic problem you are fixing!! (3 marks each – needed 3 pieces of detail)
