About The Campus School… Mission Statement: Boston College Campus School is committed to providing quality education to children with multiple challenges including complex health care needs On campus in Campion Hall Majority of students are non-verbal and are in wheelchairs
Goals for Project Allows medical team to get to know the child Facilitates hospitalization process for the non-verbal patient without a parent present Helps nurses learn how to interact with patient and how to provide minimal discomfort for the child
My Project Pt Advocacy- Developing a template and/or booklet for the non-verbal child in the hospital setting, particularly geared to those without a parental figure present during the hospitalization allows the healthcare provider to better understand the patient and his/her needs.

Ben’s Story Bedside and medical book, “Cheat Sheet”- put pictures of when Ben was happy and healthy Nutrition reports, medical history, neuro reports, previous hospitalizations Classical music = safe time Example: If Ben appears lethargic, check his O2, check lighting, etc If upset, comforted by being held When coughing, let him cough it out a little bit before resorting to suctioning
